Twelve Months of Social Issues

Week 1 Homework 2
Can it be done?
•What will the final product look like—text? images? size? format? length?
My publication is words and images. I have been working on this project for a year now (obviously not very fast 😊 because of work obligations) and one of the things I have done has been trying to gather some images I would like to use. I have asked some people for permission to use their pictures. Some have responded (and agreed), some have not. I also take my own pictures. I might ask my daughter to draw some things (she already prepares my own unique flashcards and other teaching aids).
I imagine each international day would be around 1500 words (this is how long my lesson on homelessness is (a short intro, student’s worksheets and teacher’s notes). As I mentioned earlier, I have a problem with keeping it short. My lesson created for the Holocaust Memorial Day is 8687 words long 😊, passages from the book included – but I know it creates copyright issues so the whole plan will have to be reworked)

•How much have I already written? How much is left to do?
Since the plans I make for each international day are rather extended, I only have 2 complete plans, but there are also many ideas brainstormed for the remaining ones.

•How much of the thinking/planning have I already done? How much is left to do?
The structure is there, in my head. Lots of planning is done. Obviously, my main difficulty is that I tend to overthink things and also my plans are really extended. I would love to hear your feedback to know how my work reads and feels.

•When do I plan to write?
I have just started a new full-time position at a publisher (very excited about it 😊) and will be working also during the summer, so I can only write in the evenings and at weekends.

  1. One of the nicest things about a course like this is that it gives you deadlines! Sometimes that's just what you need to do that final push.

We'll talk about places to get images--http://pixabay.com is one. Those are free images, even for commercial use. There are also places where you can purchase photos for a few dollars, if you need something more specific. And of course taking your own is great. Remember if you take pictures of people, to get their permission (in writing). I can share things like a model release form or a contract for an illustrator if anyone needs one.
