Hi there

Hi there,

I'm trying to format my book according to Smashwords Style Guide. It is a little long and takes some time , but I think it is useful. What do you think? I mean is there some kind of short cut? A simple way to learn from it. Do we have to follow and apply everyting ?

  1. I struggled with this style guide back when I put my collection of short stories, All Sorts, on Smashwords. It's useful, and clearly written, but I found the process very tedious.

  2. I know it looks long, but there are sections that you won't need, so it's actually not as bad as it looks. :)

  3. Tedious that's the right word I'm looking for . So, I suppose we need to follow the little details to get at least a good formatting. This also means some good knowledge of WORD. I feel frustrated. May be we need to work in pairs or groups to go through this.

  4. Aziz - start with Dorothy's explanation of how to format your word document using the style tool. Are you familiar with that?

  5. Aziz, I assume you're on a PC (but let me know if you're on a Mac). Does this video help?

  6. I'm watching the video. It is useful. I can read and see the effects.

  7. Aziz, you're not alone! I find Smashwords a bit overwhelming too. But hang on in there, and shout any time you want help. I'll do the same!

  8. From my own experience with them and the style guide, do not try to understand the whole thing all at once. Take it step by step. And the place to start is to understand Word Styles. Once you are comfortable working with a style, and creating a style, you are able to move through the rest more quickly.
